Great planted tanks
aren’t luck.
They’re method.
Modern LED lighting has transformed the planted tank hobby. You no longer need specialist equipment or years of experience to grow beautiful aquatic plants — a decent full-spectrum LED and a consistent fertiliser routine is genuinely all it takes. The hard part isn’t the light. It’s the feeding.
The problem with most aquarium fertilisers is that you’re handing that control over. Pre-mixed bottles are formulated for a generic tank. They can’t account for your plant load, your stocking density, or your water chemistry. You’re dosing blind.
With Aquafertz you mix your own macro and micro solutions from individual compounds. You know exactly what’s going in. You can adjust any element independently — increase iron for reds, dial back nitrate if your fish stock is high, or tweak phosphate to outcompete algae. This is how serious hobbyists have been doing it for years — we’ve just removed the chemistry homework.

Rather than large weekly doses that spike and crash, PPS-Pro tops up nutrients in tiny amounts every day. Plants draw what they need — no feast, no famine, no algae trigger.
Your tank is unique. High fish load? Your nitrate is already covered — reduce it in the macro bottle. Struggling with yellowing leaves? Add more magnesium. Every element is separate, so you can fine-tune without starting over.
Every compound is labelled and described. KNO₃ for nitrogen and potassium. KH₂PO₄ for phosphorus. You understand the role of each element — which makes diagnosing plant problems straightforward.
New scape, more plants, more light? Simply top up the individual compound you need. No need to buy an entire new bottle of pre-mixed solution just because one element ran out first.
Pre-mixed solutions
are costing you
far more than you think.
A typical branded all-in-one liquid fertiliser runs to £15–£25 per bottle. For a 100-litre tank dosed daily, most hobbyists are spending £10–£15 a month on fertiliser alone. That’s up to £180 a year — for a solution with a fixed formula you can’t adjust.
The Aquafertz Full Kit is £39 delivered. Mix two 500ml solution bottles — your macro and micro — and you have roughly 6–8 months of daily dosing for a 100-litre tank. When compounds run low, top up individually. A £12 bag of KNO₃ will outlast several bottles of pre-mixed.
The maths are simple. The control is priceless.

Your tank. Your mix.
Your call.
Growing aquatic plants has never been more accessible. Modern full-spectrum LEDs do the light work for you — and once light is sorted, nutrition is the one variable that separates a struggling tank from a thriving one. Feed your plants correctly and consistently, and the results speak for themselves.
Once you’re comfortable with the standard PPS-Pro formula, the real fun begins. Every planted tank is different — and because Aquafertz supplies each compound individually, you have complete freedom to adjust the balance for your specific setup.
You don’t need to be a chemist. Our dosing guide walks you through exactly how to adjust each compound and why. You’ll understand your tank at a level that most hobbyists never reach — and your plants will show it.
A full-spectrum LED and daily PPS-Pro dosing is all you need to get started. Stick to the standard formula, dose every day, and you’ll see healthy growth within weeks — no specialist kit required.
Heavy plant mass consumes nutrients quickly. Increase your daily dose volume proportionally as the tank fills in — the formula stays balanced, you simply use a little more each day.
Run a reduced dose — shrimp tanks are typically lightly planted. The copper-free micro mix means you can dose with complete confidence. No risk to your shrimp, ever.
Something not right
in your tank? Let’s fix it.
Most planted tank problems come down to one thing — nutrition. Here are the most common issues hobbyists run into, and exactly how Aquafertz fixes them.
Yellowing leaves are the most common sign of a nutrient deficiency. Overall yellowing — especially on older leaves first — usually points to nitrogen deficiency. Nitrogen is what plants use to build chlorophyll, so when it runs low, leaves lose their green colour from the bottom up.
If the yellowing is between the veins but the veins themselves stay green, that’s more likely a magnesium or iron deficiency — both essential for chlorophyll production. With Aquafertz you can address each one directly: increase KNO₃ for nitrogen, MgSO₄ for magnesium, or add a small extra dose of Iron DTPA for iron without touching the rest of your formula.
Fix: increase KNO₃ or MgSO₄ dose
Algae almost always means your plants aren’t consuming nutrients fast enough — leaving excess for algae to feed on. This is usually caused by irregular or inconsistent dosing, or a nutrient imbalance where one element is too high relative to the others.
PPS-Pro is specifically designed to prevent this. Small daily doses keep nutrients at a stable, low level that plants consume as fast as you add them. There’s never a surplus for algae to exploit. If you’re already seeing algae, reduce your dose slightly for a week or two while the plants catch up, then settle back into the daily routine.
Fix: dose daily — consistency is everything
Red colouration in aquatic plants is largely driven by iron availability and light intensity. When iron runs low, reds revert to green — the plant is still growing, it just can’t produce the pigments that give it colour.
The fix is simple: increase your Iron DTPA dose slightly. Aquafertz stocks Iron DTPA 11% as a standalone compound for exactly this reason — you can boost iron without changing anything else in your macro or micro formula. You should see colour returning within one to two weeks of consistent dosing.
Fix: increase Iron DTPA dose
Slow growth usually comes down to light, temperature, or nutrition — and in most cases, all three are fine except the feeding. Plants need a consistent supply of macro and micro nutrients to grow. Miss a few days of dosing and growth stalls noticeably.
Check your lighting first — a modern full-spectrum LED on for 8–10 hours a day is ideal for most plants. Then make sure you’re dosing every single day without gaps. Consistency matters more than the exact dose amount. If growth is still slow after two weeks of regular dosing, consider increasing your macro dose slightly — particularly KNO₃ and K₂SO₄.
Fix: consistent daily dosing + check light duration
Holes or transparent patches in leaves — particularly on larger-leaved plants like Amazon swords or Cryptocorynes — are a classic sign of potassium deficiency. Potassium is essential for cell integrity, and without enough of it, leaf tissue breaks down from the inside out.
Increase your K₂SO₄ dose (Potassium Sulphate) and the problem typically resolves with new growth. The damaged leaves won’t recover, but trim them off and new leaves should come through healthy. This is one of the clearest examples of why having individual compounds matters — you can fix a potassium problem without changing your nitrogen or phosphorus at all.
Fix: increase K₂SO₄ dose
Yes — but only if the fertiliser is copper-free. Copper is lethal to shrimp and invertebrates even in tiny amounts, and it’s present in the majority of off-the-shelf aquarium fertilisers, usually listed as copper sulphate in the micro trace elements.
Aquafertz is formulated from the ground up with shrimp in mind. Our micro mix contains zero copper — none added, no trace amounts, nothing. Every compound is clearly labelled so you know exactly what’s going into your tank. You can fertilise a shrimp-heavy planted tank with complete confidence.

The standard PPS-Pro dose is 1ml of each solution (macro and micro) per 10 litres of tank water, dosed once daily. So a 100-litre tank gets 10ml of macro and 10ml of micro every day using the included syringe.
That’s it. Mix your two 500ml bottles once, keep them next to your tank, and add a quick squirt each morning. The whole process takes about 20 seconds. The dosing guide included with every kit walks you through everything, and our full how-it-works page covers adjustments for different tank sizes and plant loads.

The Full PPS-Pro Kit contains everything you need to start dosing on day one — nothing extra to buy. You’ll receive the pre-measured macro powder mix (KNO₃, KH₂PO₄, K₂SO₄, and MgSO₄ combined and ready to dissolve), the copper-free micro mix (trace elements including iron, manganese, zinc, and boron), two 500ml mixing bottles to make up your macro and micro solutions, two dosing syringes for accurate daily measurement, and a dosing guide covering exactly how to mix, how much to dose, and how to adjust for your tank size.
Everything is labelled clearly. Open the box, follow the guide, and you’re dosing within minutes.

It depends on your tank size, but as a guide — for a 100-litre planted tank dosed daily, the Full Kit gives you roughly 6 to 8 months of dosing. Each 500ml solution bottle lasts approximately that long at the standard 10ml daily dose.
Because each compound is available to buy individually, you only ever top up what runs low. The macro compounds don’t all run out at the same time — KNO₃ gets used the most, so you might reorder that before the others. No need to buy a whole new kit every time. It’s a much more economical approach than pre-mixed solutions that force you to buy the whole bottle regardless of which nutrient you actually need.

Yes — and it’s a great time to start. Getting your nutrient routine established from day one means your plants have everything they need as they settle in and begin growing.
For a new tank, start at the standard dose and don’t be tempted to over-dose in the hope of faster results — more fertiliser does not mean faster growth, it just means more algae risk while the plants are still establishing. Stick to the daily routine, give the tank 3–4 weeks to settle, and you’ll see steady, healthy growth without the algae battles that catch a lot of new planted tank keepers out.

Aquafertz works for any size planted tank — from a small 30-litre nano right up to large display aquariums of 200 litres and beyond. The dose simply scales with your tank volume: 1ml of each solution per 10 litres, daily.
A 30-litre nano gets 3ml of macro and 3ml of micro each day. A 200-litre tank gets 20ml of each. The included syringes make measuring accurate and fuss-free at any dose size. The Full Kit will last considerably longer in a smaller tank, making it exceptional value for nano setups in particular.
